FORT GORDON, Ga. - One of Third Army’s most recent theater security cooperation events built on professional development in the signal field while focusing on the important role noncommissioned officers play in the U.S. Army. The TSC event brought together Third Army and the Tajikistan Armed Forces for a communications information exchange at Fort Gordon, Ga., in late July.

The intent of this visit was to share basic information on the organizational structure and maintenance of both the U.S. Army Signal corps and the Tajikistani Armed Forces,” said Capt. Donald, Ross, Third Army/U.S. Army Central G6 Signal officer. “Third Army is using this engagement to build a foundation for possible future engagements, addressing concerns and practices used to develop the enlisted and NCO corp within the signal regiment for both countries.”

A highlight of the event was for participants to learn how each country trains and develops their soldiers. Like U.S. soldiers, Tajikistani soldiers also attend a basic training but do not have as extensive training for NCOs.

Brig. Gen. Jeffrey W. Foley, commanding general of Fort Gordon, spoke to participants during the week, emphasizing the training enlisted soldiers and officers receive. He also talked about the roles they play in day-to-day Army operations.

In keeping with Third Army’s mission to shape the future, the event built on the Tajikistan-U.S. relationship. Participants spent time learning about each country’s signal capabilities and their maintenance procedures.

“I enjoyed getting a real insight of how the U.S. Army performs their Signal Mission,” said Col. Kamir, Khalifaev, Tajikistani Army chief of Communications Center, said. “I realized that the U.S. Army and the Tajikistani Communications Directorate trains their soldiers differently. The role of U.S. Army enlisted Soldier is more advanced than I originally envisioned.”
