NEW ORLEANS – Leadership of the Louisiana Army National Guard’s 204th Theater Airfield Operations Group, changed hands Saturday, Aug. 7, in a change-of-command ceremony held at the LANG Army Aviation Support Facility in Hammond, La.

Col. Stephen P. Todd, most recently assigned to Joint Force Headquarters, assumed command of the 204th TAOG from Col. William Sherry Brannan Jr., who had served in that capacity since October 2008.

Todd, who hails from Pineville, La., said he was glad to return from a two year absence to the aviation field, where he spent almost 19 years of his Army career.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of preparing the 204th for upcoming missions, which is what we do, and maintaining that pace,” he said.

In his remarks, Adjutant General of the Louisiana National Guard, Maj. Gen. Bennett C. Landreneau welcomed Todd to his new command by recognizing his many years of leadership and service to the Louisiana Guard.

“Col. Todd is a proven leader with 31 years of service to our great organization. He brings to the table knowledge, dedication and loyalty that will serve him well as your new commander,” Landreneau said.

Brannan, from Abita Springs, La., expressed gratitude for having had the opportunity to lead the 204th, and he expressed pride in the performance of his Soldiers through numerous stateside and war time missions.

“We did an outstanding job with an outstanding group of people – that’s what it’s all about,” said Brannan.

Landreneau expressed gratitude to Brannan for his proven performance as the outgoing commander.

“He handled the pressures of this command well and in the process helped to maintain the high training standards established long ago,” said Landreneau.

The federal mission of the 204th TAOG is to provide command and control, staff planning, supervision and standardization of all airfields and air traffic services within a theater area of operations. As one of only two TAOGs in the Army inventory, it is recognized throughout the total Army in its global mission for its subject matter expertise on airfield and air traffic control functions.
