3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division

FORT HOOD, Texas – The 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, as a unit, continues to nurture their relationship with their sponsored, on-post community., the Fort Hood community that the unit sponsors.

During a town hall meeting and ice cream social, July 20, the community mayor and community life non-commissioned officer met at the Comanche Youth Development Center to inform and engage the residents of Comanche II Village. Representatives from 3rd BCT, including Col. Douglas Crissman, the brigade’s commander, attended the meeting to maintain relations and gather information concerning the health and welfare of community members and their homes.

“Residents are glad for the commander’s involvement,” said Debbie Jarzynkowski, the Comanche II Village mayor. “They want a leader that is willing to listen and he will take care of our soldiers. It’s all about being a part of a team.”

At the community’s first town hall meeting, in April, families raised concern about vehicles speeding through the neighborhoods and the overall safety of the area.

Since then, the military police department emplaced a digital speed limit sign and Soldiers conduct courtesy patrols through the area while on staff duty at the brigade’s headquarters.

Jarzynkowski said the added help has been effective.

“The radar just came out and the beautification is a work in progress. Having that extra patrol is nice, too,” she said.

The brigade intends to continue attending meetings such as this one to foster the relationship between the community and the unit that supports it.
