MANAMA, Bahrain " The French Navy frigate FS Jacoubet (F 794), operating as part of a Dutch-led maritime task force in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, rescued almost 50 Somalis whose small boat had been disabled as they attempted to cross the Gulf of Aden Feb 4.

Jacoubet, part of Combined Task Force 150 led by Royal Netherlands Navy Commodore Hank Ort was in the area and discovered the dhow, named Khaliningrad, with a failed engine and out of food and water. About half of those aboard were women and children.

Human trafficking continues to be an international concern as smugglers attempt to profit by moving desperate people in less than safe conditions from one country to the next.

After receiving assistance from Jacoubet, Khaliningrad's passengers requested a commercial vessel tow the dhow back to the coast of Somalia.

Task Force 150 conducts Maritime Security Operations (MSO) in the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea, Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Gulf of Oman. MSO deny international terrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material. MSO includes a full range of activities from assisting mariners in distress to Visit, Board, Seach and Seizure operations to engaging with regional and coalition navies.
