MARINE CORPS AIR STATION BEAUFORT, S.C. - Shouts of joy and excitement rang throughout Laurel Bay as elementary students participated in the Elliott Elementary Olympics in the schools yard, May 21.

Students displayed their skills for parents, teachers, classmates and volunteers to see through 10 obstacles and exercises.

The event was organized by Elliott's parent teacher organization and its president, Michelle Crombaugh. The PTO sold recipe books at the commissary aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island to raise money to buy medals and refreshments for the participants.

"The PTO is the backbone of everything happening here at Elliott," said Vicky Parr, the school's principal. "Full support of the parents helps when you're dealing with so many children.

"Getting active in what the children are doing is encouraged by the PTO and the faculty."

Although the faculty put in plenty of hard work and time, according to Crombaugh, the most important stars of the day were the kindergarteners and the first-and second-graders of Elliott Elementary school.

"We wanted to have a fun day at the end of the year for them to enjoy, be active and work together,"
Crombaugh explained. "That's where the idea originally came from. It ended up being a perfect day out for the events we had planned."

Crombaugh pointed out that she was anxious to see what creative ideas the physical education teacher, Anna Holloway, was able to come up with.

Events were comprised of hula hooping, an obstacle course where kids hopped and ducked their way through hoops to the finish line, an egg carry and several relay races.

"The games and obstacles were just for fun," Holloway said. "In the end, all the children will were winners and received awards."

The competition isn't what's important, just the participation and effort they put forth."
