Brig. Gen. H. Stacy Clardy III, the Combat Center's commanding general, cut the ribbon with LaVonne Lessard, the coordinator for the Single Marine Program, Feb. 17 morning to officially open the recently remodeled Zone.
After being moved to a temporary location near the West Gym in November, SMP staff opened The Zone's doors to Combat Center personnel.
"We received a Dance Dance Revolution Extreme, a basketball shooter, and a new gaming corner for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3," Lessard said.
Lessard also said The Zone now provides its patrons a DVD binder filled with more than 700 different movies which can be watched in the establishment's theater. New movies are added to the binder each month.
"The movies are great and they even get movies that aren't even out on DVD," said Cpl. Evan Eskharia, a hygiene equipment operator with Marine Wing Support Squadron 374, and volunteer at The Zone.
Lessard added in addition to the theater, The Zone boasts a room made specifically for computer gamers and offers popular titles like Halo, Dawn of War, Assassins' Creed and many more.
For the more hands-on Marines, there are six pool tables, three foosball tables and two ping pong tables, Lessard said.
"This place is great to just hang out for the whole night instead of having people jump back and forth from the [Excursions Enlisted Club] and here," said Lance Cpl. Lamar Hatchett, an administration clerk with Headquarter and Service Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, from Bronsburo, Ind.
