MANAMA, Bahrain - Vice Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert held an informal Q&A luncheon with Sailors stationed at various tenant commands on board Naval Support Activity Bahrain today as part of a week-long tour of 5th Fleet commands.

The luncheon gave Sailors the opportunity to voice their concerns about various Navy issues. It also gave the admiral an opportunity to inform Sailors of current operations that the Navy is directly involved in around the world.

"It's always a pleasure to sit down with Sailors and be able to give you an opportunity to speak about the issues that affect your lives, as well as to let you know how the Navy is performing elsewhere," said Greenert during the luncheon. "I'm always proud of the work every Sailor does."

Sailors addressed areas such as ratings mergers, the advancement system, and pay issues.

Greenert also took time during the visit to discuss what he considers to be a relatively unknown medical injury recovery program, Safe Harbor. This voluntary program, which is the Navy's lead organization for providing non-medical care to Sailors, Coast Guardsmen and their families, is designed to assist in Sailors' recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration to what Greenert called "hometown USA."

Safe Harbor also offers help to Sailors with pay issues, travel for family members, lodging and housing adaptation, education and other support to ease the service member's transition to Veteran Affairs and other continuing care.

Greenert wanted to create awareness of this program.

"It's important all Sailors know this program is out there for them, especially those working in high-risk situations in which injury may occur and assistance is required both during the recovery and post-recovery phase in all facets of daily life," he explained.

The event concluded with Greenert expressing his thanks to the Sailors for their service to the Navy and nation.

"What you do over here is felt back home, and it's appreciated," he said.
