SOUTHWEST ASIA — Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations January 15, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

    Air Operations in Afghanistan:

    Tirgari
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch and reconnaissance for a friendly-forces convoy and ground forces. The pilots escorted convoy vehicles to their destination without incident and conducted a show of force over ground forces receiving rocket-propelled-grenade fire. The show of force successfully ended the enemy fire.

    Remak
Coalition pilots provided armed overwatch, reconnaissance and surveillance for friendly ground forces. The pilot conducted a show of force for friendly forces who were taking enemy fire. The show of force was deemed successful when enemy action ceased.

    Morghab
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle and B-1B Lancer aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The friendly forces reported suspicious personnel in a treeline so an F-15E crew conducted a show of force to deter any potential anti-Afghan forces activity. The show of force was considered successful as there was no enemy fire at that time. A B-1B aircrew continued the F-15E crew's overwatch mission. When the friendly forces reported taking heavy machine gun fire, the aircrew released a precision-guided munition on the confirmed point of origin of the enemy fire. The enemy fire ceased and later battle damage assessments reported the enemy weapon had been destroyed.

    Konduz
Pilots flying Air Force F-16C aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When an enemy mortar position opened fire on friendly forces, a show of force was conducted to stop the enemy fire. The show of force was declared successful when the firing ceased. Later, the pilots successfully strafed an enemy ambush point, preventing further attacks on friendly forces.

    Asadabad
Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch and reconnaissance for a coalition patrol and friendly forces. Two shows of force were conducted to deter any possible enemy action. The shows of force were declared successful when no attack occurred.

    Balocan
Coalition pilots flew armed overwatch for a large friendly-forces convoy. The pilots observed several suspicious vehicles and personnel along the convoy route and conducted a show of force to deter any potential conflict with the convoy. The show of force was successful in deterring any action.

    Tarin Kowt
Air Force pilots flying A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft provided armed overwatch and close air support for friendly forces. Shows of force were conducted to deter and prevent enemy attacks on friendly forces. The shows of force, with flares expended, were successful in deterring enemy action in the area.
