380th Space Control Squadron redesignated as Electromagnetic Warfare Squadron

    COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, UNITED STATES

Story by Staff Sgt. Marko Salopek

    310th Space Wing

The 380th Space Control Squadron, a unit of the 710th Operations Group, was redesignated as the 380th Electromagnetic Warfare Squadron during a ceremony held on Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado, February 5, 2023.

The unit was officially redesignated as 380th EWS on December 22, 2022 by order of Frank Kendall III, the Secretary of the Air force.

Though the mission of the 380th EWS does not change, this redesignation highlights the importance we place on mission-sets and capabilities within the electromagnetic spectrum, along with an increased focus on the electromagnetic spectrum as a battlespace that is challenged by peer and near-peer adversaries.

“The redesignation of the 380th, along with our active duty partners, is a reflection of how our air and space forces are transitioning from a traditional consideration of electromagnetic warfare to an expanded understanding of how we must grow and innovate to continue to overcome ever changing threats,” said Col. Samantha Pitman, the 710th Operations Group commander.

380th EWS operates the Bounty Hunter system monitoring satellite communications links worldwide to detect, characterize and geo-locate satellite communications jammers, sources of
interference and other signals of interest.
