13th Armored Corps Sustainment Command (13th ESC)

CAMP LIBERTY, Iraq — Brig. Gen. Thomas S. Vandal, the deputy commanding general for support for the 3rd Infantry Division, and Command Sgt. Maj. Jesse Andrews, the 3rd ID command sergeant major, arrived here Aug. 19 as a part of their Pre-Deployment Site Survey for their upcoming deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

As part of their visit to Camp Liberty, they visited the 260th Quartermaster Battalion, from Hunter Army Airfield, Ga., currently deployed as the 260th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion. During the visit to the Fuel Masters, Vandal honored personnel currently serving their first deployment by awarding them their first combat patch, that of the 3rd Sustainment Brigade.

Both men spoke to the Soldiers about the honor of serving during a time of persistent conflict and the pride that they will have wearing their newly-earned combat patch. The Soldiers were told how proud they should be as "Dog Faced Soldiers" and how they were now a part of that proud heritage.

Vandal spent time talking to the Soldiers about the importance of their mission, the upcoming deployment of the 3rd ID and ensured that their families would be taken care of back in Savannah. He made promises to some of the Soldiers that he would call their families and tell them how successful their Soldiers were conducting their mission in Iraq.

The Soldiers of HHC, 260th CSSB were excited and honored to get visits from their own "Dog Faced" leaders and they learned how proud everyone in the division is of their accomplishments. They are performing an incredibly important mission of providing units in the Baghdad area of operations with the critical supplies needed to conduct their missions and both Vandal and Command Sgt. Maj. Andrews emphasized that importance and how the Soldiers would not be "alone" for long when the rest of the "Dog Faced Soldiers" of the division joined them soon.
