CAMP ATTERBURY JOINT MANEUVER TRAINING CENTER, Ind. — Members of the 38th Infantry Division Association, an organization of former and current members of the 38th Infantry Division, paid a visit to Task Force Cyclone and its leaders, Saturday, July 18. Task Force Cyclone is made up of Soldiers from the 38th.

Association members took a tour of Camp Atterbury and witnessed Brig. Gen. Lonnie Culver's assumption of command ceremony for Task Force Cyclone.

Many members of the association had a chance to mingle with Task Force Cyclone's mobilizing troops at their annual meeting at the American Legion Post 233 in Edinburgh, Ind.

Retired 1st Sgt. Gordon Lake, an artilleryman who served with both 1st and 2nd Battalions, 150th Field Artillery units, said that the association is important for keeping in touch with military roots.

"You see so many Soldiers who once were young and now are leaders [and whom] you're so proud of that you mentored," said Lake. "The lineage of history in the military is so important. When these guys are like us, they'll have to carry that history forward when we're gone. Otherwise, you lose that togetherness that the Indiana National Guard is known for."

Guest speakers at the event included Deputy Adjutant General Brig. Gen. Margaret Washburn, 38th Infantry Division Commander Maj. Gen. Tod Carmony, Col. Courtney Carr, 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team commander, and Culver, the new Task Force Cyclone commander.

All speakers gave updates to the association on the state's National Guard developments over the last year and plans for the future.

Culver outlined the mission for the next year and said he's ready for the task at hand.

"I've been blessed with a task force that has experience and knowledge for mission success. We are manned at 110 percent, we are equipped with the best equipment in the world and we are completing our final training," said Culver. "I'm looking forward to serving the next year with the proud Soldiers of Task Force Cyclone."
