NANGARHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan — The 4th Special Troops Battalion, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division assumed responsibility for Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, June 17, from 3rd Special Troops Battalion, 1st Infantry Division of Fort Hood, Texas.
The transfer of authority ceremony occurred at Forward Operating Base Finley Shields in Jalalabad, Afghanistan.
The ceremony included an uncasing of Battalion colors by Lt. Col. Jody Nelson, commander of the 4th STB, and Command Sgt. Maj. Danny Day, command sergeant major of the 4th STB. The uncasing of the unit colors symbolizes the unit's readiness and responsibility over the area of operations.
Soldiers from the 4th STB have trained for the past year at Fort Carson, Colo., in preparation for the deployment, said Nelson.
"We are dedicated to supporting a secure, prosperous Nangarhar through partnership with Afghan national security forces," Nelson added.
The ceremony was attended by Afghan leaders from Nangarhar, including the Provincial Council chairman, Fazil Hadi Muslimayar, on behalf of Provincial Gov. Gul Agha Sherzai.
