FORT HOOD, Texas — With bags full of 15th SB souvenirs, Command Sgt. Maj. Nathaniel Bartee, senior non-commissioned officer, 15th Sustainment Brigade, 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), welcomed Houston Delayed Entry Program Army recruits here June 10 for a tour of the base.
Sgt. 1st Class Karen Hudson and Sgt 1st Class Allen Sistrunk, Houston Recruiting Battalion recruiters, teamed up with Bartee to show the recruits Army life after Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training.
"I wanted them to put a name with the face," said Hudson.
"As a senior non-commissioned officer, it is my job and responsibility to continue to educate the young people of our community," Bartee said.
The recruits experienced their first briefing from Sgt. 1st Class Aaron Finley, 15th SB mission support order manager and had lunch at the Freeman Dining Facility, which the recruits nicknamed "the all you can eat buffet." The recruits then visited the Military Clothing to see where Soldier bought their uniforms.
Hudson said the visit to the 180th Transportation Battalion motor pool was one of the best ways to show the recruits the different types of vehicles the Army uses and discuss the different jobs they will come across during their Army careers.
The group went to the Clear Creek Post Exchange and stopped to take pictures of the 1st Cavalry Division Museum along the way.
"They had the look of awe," Hudson said of their visit to the PX. "That was definitely their favorite."
Hudson said the 15th SB and its Soldiers were great hosts for the tour and the group had a great time.
"It was wonderful to show them Army life and how it functions. We will definitely do this again."
Hudson said the recruits did not interact with the Soldiers enough this time.
She said, "Next time I would love to have the recruits shadow a Soldier for interaction and asking questions."
Bartee said he would do this again for an individual, recruiting station, school, or community.
"[I will take] the sense of pride and commitment that these young folks have shown for their community and country with me," Bartee said of the visit.
He expressed his gratitude to the recruiters for allowing the 15th SB to be a part of the visit and to the recruits for the tough choice they made.
"Thank you for enlisting in the greatest Army in the world."
