FORT STEWART, Ga. - Soldiers from the 1055th Transportation Company, with the South Carolina National Guard, were paid a visit in May at Ft. Stewart, Ga., by State Command Sgt. Maj. Eddie Harris.
The Soldiers are preparing for a deployment to Iraq in July with a task force from 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team out of Oregon.
The vast majority of the leadership from the company has been deployed, and they are very well trained and experienced, said Harris.
The Command Sgt. Maj. for the Oregon task force, T.J. Santoyo, said we're an infantry battalion and they're maintenance and transportation, so their skills are very important to our convoy security and force protection mission.
Task Force Commander, Lt. Col. Gregory Day, said it is obvious that South Carolina sent some of their best Soldiers here for this mission, and I am grateful for that.
"I have high expectations, they've been well trained, they been checking all the boxes as they go, and all of the Observer Controller Trainers have been telling me they execute well, and represent us well as South Carolinians," said Harris.
State Command Sgt. Major is the highest enlisted rank in the South Carolina National Guard which has around 10000 Soldiers both enlisted and officer.
