University of Texas Longhorns head football coach, Mack Brown, and his wife, Sally, visited with 4th Infantry Division Soldiers and family members during a visit to Fort Hood on April 29.

During the couple's visit, Sally used the opportunity to sit down and talk with members of the 4th Inf. Div. Wives Club about their experiences while the Soldiers were deployed to Iraq.

Topics discussed ranged from how the deployments affected living conditions at home to the services that were available to family members while their Soldier was deployed.

"These women are some of the strongest spouses I have ever met," said Sally. "They have to step up and take care of so many responsibilities while their husbands are away that most wives will never have to deal with on their own. These women did it, and they remained strong through it, and not because they wanted to, it's because they needed to be strong and support their husbands as they were risking their lives daily in Iraq."

Sally said she was full of awe and admiration after talking with the spouses because of their strength and support during the difficult times they persevered.

The visit was also a great opportunity for the spouses to share their stories of how they maintained during their Soldiers' deployment.

"It was nice to see someone of Sally's position take the time to visit with us," said Shannon Kunkle, wife of Sgt. Gregg Kunkle, a squad leader with the Division Special Troops Battalion. "Many people have come and visited to see what our husbands deal with, it's nice to have someone come and listen to what we experience during these deployments."
