KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghan national army soldiers and Afghan national police, assisted by coalition forces, killed two armed militants in Khas Oruzgan District, Oruzgan Province today.
The Afghan-led force was conducting a combat reconnaissance patrol in a known area of heavy militant presence, when they positively identified two armed militants with machine guns moving into an ambush position.
After ensuring there were no civilians in the area, the combined elements engaged the enemy's position, killing both militants.
"The quick action by the Afghan-led force today have hindered militant operations in Khas Oruzgan, and prevented the deaths of innocent citizens," said Maj. Gen. M-Zahir Azimi, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
