CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait - One of the many events attended by the new Commander in Chief on inauguration day was the aptly named Commander in Chief's Inaugural Ball.

The Department of Defense's top military and political officials attended the ball in D.C. while some attendees attended via satellite from Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Marine Lance Cpl. Nicholas Guillen, a Doylestown, Pa. native, was able to speak via satellite to the Marine's senior enlisted advisor, who was attending the ball.

Guillen, who is currently deployed to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, was asked about his deployment and service by Preston.

"I'm proud to be representing the Marines in Kuwait," said Guillen. "I love being a Marine and serving my country."

Sergeant Major of the Army Kenneth O. Preston said it was important to remember the sacrifices of all the service members currently serving overseas.

"We set up this live feed from the war zones into the ballroom to give the deployed troops a chance to really feel a part of the inaugural process." said Sgt. Maj. Rich Greene, the event coordinator. "It's early in the morning for all of these Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen who are here, but it's a morning they will never forget."

The first of the live video feeds into the ballroom began at two-thirty in the morning for the troops in Kuwait, followed by those in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Representatives from each of the military branches were able to speak with their respective senior enlisted advisors, and along with being broadcast to the attendees of the ball, the entire ball was broadcast live on the American Forces Network and on The Pentagon Channel.
