BELLE CHASSE, La. - Lt. Col. H. Romie Galloway of New Orleans accepted the flag of command for the Louisiana Air National Guard's 159th Mission Support Group during a change of command ceremony, Jan. 11, at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Belle Chasse, La.
Galloway assumed command from Col. Mary Alice Salcido, who has held the position since 2000. Salcido is now the acting director of Air National Guard Recruiting and Retention at the National Guard Bureau in Washington, D.C.
Galloway started her career as an airman in 1986 as a contracting apprentice in the 159th Resource Management Squadron, part of the group she commands today. "I am both proud and humbled to be returning to the Mission Support Group," she said.
The new commander told of her journey to the military and through the ranks with pride. As a young person who did not fall in line with the pace of college, she joined the military and found her place. "I knew I wanted to be part of something bigger than myself and I found it," Galloway said.
She received her commission as a second lieutenant in 1989. Her assignments have included chief of personnel utilization; aide to the adjutant general; executive support officer; chief of logistics, plans and programs; director of personnel; and commander of the 159th Maintenance Support Flight. Her most recent assignment was as commander of the 159th Maintenance Squadron.
Galloway's responsibilities as commander of the 159th Mission Support Group will include management and responsibility for all administrative functions for units including security forces, civil engineers, communications, services, supply, contracting, personnel and information management in support of the 159th Fighter Wing missions.
During her 22-year career, Galloway has received awards including the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters and the Army Commendation Medal.
Galloway is a native of New Orleans and a graduate of John Ehret High School. She attended Louisiana State University and the University of New Orleans earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Resources.
