This holiday season Task Force 34 Soldiers were able to participate in many holiday events, such as parties, a 5K Jingle Jog run, Christmas Eve Swim-A-Thon and holiday chapel services.

Christmas dinner was an event in itself for the Soldiers at Joint Base Balad, Iraq. The Dining Facility 4 was very festively decorated with Santa and Mrs. Claus, complete with a sleigh and eight reindeer, elves, a giant snowman and nativity scene.

This did not include the food art decorations of frosting angels and produce manger.

Two Soldiers even dressed in costumes as Christmas presents.

The meal itself was also a sight to be seen with a full range of fresh baked goods, deserts and food ranging from King crab legs to prime rib, as well as numerous kinds of dressings and other holiday dishes.

"Soldiers get two choices of what kind of stuffing they want, they don't even get that at home," said Sgt. 1st Class Jason Goble, TF 34 Air Plans non-commissioned officer-in-charge.

Like the Thanksgiving meal in DFAC 4, senior staff contributed with serving the Christmas meal.

"It was an outstanding meal and a great opportunity to see the Soldiers of Task Force 34 during the holidays," said Chief Warrant Officer 2 Sean Deuth, TF 34 Headquarters plans targeting officer, who participated in serving chow.

"I enjoyed having the opportunity to serve Soldiers during this holiday season they are spending away from friends and family at home," said Maj. Gary Diamond, 834th Aviation Support Battalion Support Operations officer, who participated in serving chow.

The meal was a wonderful addition to the other festivities for the holiday season.

"The Bible tells us we don't live by bread alone," said Lt. Col. Joel Severson, TF 34 chaplain. "But turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy sure do help."
