LAFAYETTE, La. – The University of Louisiana at Lafayette paid tribute to the Louisiana National Guard during their homecoming halftime show at Cajun Field in Lafayette, La., Nov. 8.
University president Dr. E. Joseph Savoie presented Maj. Gen. Bennett C. Landreneau, Louisiana National Guard Adjutant General, with the school's flag during a military appreciation ceremony.
"I give you this flag as a sign of appreciation to your organization," said Savoie after handing over the school's colors. "We thank you for the countless sacrifices that the Louisiana National Guard has given to this state and the country."
After receiving a standing ovation, Landreneau showed his gratitude with a huge wave of acknowledgement while he uttered the words, "Thank you."
The final mark of respect came when the general saluted as the Ragin Cajun band played "Taps" to honor the fallen members of the military. Once the song of remembrance was finished, the crowd was wowed by a fireworks display.
