841st Engineer Battalion
MIAMI - The 841st Engineer Battalion will hold a welcome home ceremony September 27, 2008, at 5 p.m., honoring the Soldiers who have returned home from deployment to Iraq. The ceremony will be held at Northwest Miami High School, 1100 NW 71st Street, Miami, Fla. 33150, with Col. Craig Sanders, commander of the 926th Mission Support Element Brigade, presiding over the festivities.
The 841st Engineer Battalion Soldiers are returning home after a 12 month tour serving in support of the global war on terror. During their tour, the Soldiers operated in two units, Bravo Company, a route clearance company, and the Explosive Hazards Coordination Cell, a staff element. Soldiers from throughout the 841st Engineer Battalion and its Companies including those in Miami, Orlando and South Florida made up the two units.
Bravo Company's mission was to maintain freedom of movement for coalition forces and Iraqis by finding and removing improvised explosive devices from roads in both western and central Iraq. This allowed the Iraqi people and coalition forces working in Iraq to safely use the roads without fear of roadside bombs. The Explosive Hazards Coordination Cell worked in Baghdad as part of the principle engineer staff providing corps-level oversight and financial resourcing of route clearance vehicles, supplying Mobile Observation Teams to facilitate the exchange of the latest counter-IED trends, training engineer Soldiers in proper IED reduction, and offering oversight and management of Specialized Search Dog teams.
