KABUL, Afghanistan (May 27, 2017) — The Ministry of Defense graduated its newest class of inspectors general here recently, and now they’re helping eradicate corruption.
During the graduation ceremony, Danish Brigadier General Christian Arildsen, director of Transparency, Accountability and Oversight, highlighted the relevance of their duties in providing independent oversight of the ministry’s logistics, supplies, personnel, and finances.
“The real enemy of Afghanistan is corruption. You all play a vital role in capturing those stealing fuel, ammunitions, and even the pay of soldiers and police that are in frontlines protecting this nation,” Arildsen expressed. “The only way to protect the resources the international community have pledged to all is to eradicate corruption. These resources can’t be misused.”
Major General Sardar Mohammad Abul Fazed, chief of general staff inspector general was also present, and he delivered a message for the future Inspectors.
“It is our job to make our Army free from corruption. You have a big responsibility to find the issues that are affecting our Army and our soldiers; to instill accountability,” Abul Fazed said. “Use what you have learned as the basics to conduct your duties, but keep your eyes and minds open to find ways to improve how we protect our service members and resources.”
Three female officers also received their certificates.
“I will be out there, bringing issues to light so females can perform the jobs assigned to them. Every position must have a clear descriptions of their duties and responsibilities. There has to be improvements and possibilities for females. I will be part of that effort,” said 2nd Lieutenant Fatima Mirzayee, administrative officer at the financial inspection directorate, Inspector General, Ministry of Defense.
The graduates will head to units across the country and join the 570 seasoned inspectors general already operating across the Nation.
