FORT STEWART, Ga. - The Marne Community and Spouses Club (MCSC) hosted their 4th annual Golf Scramble April 21 at Taylors Creek Golf Course on Fort Stewart, Georgia.
The golf scramble is an annual fundraiser to benefit the MCSC community outreach fund, which presents grants and scholarships to schools and organizations of the Marne community.
A golf scramble is a tournament played in teams of four. There are 18 holes and each player hits a ball at each hole. From there, the team chooses the best play and continues that way for the rest of the game.
Whether participants attended the tournament for friendly competition or a small get together with friends, the scramble was an event for Fort Stewart and the surrounding area.
“Our fundraising reaches to all the local communities like Richmond Hill, Jessup and Hinesville,” said Misty Owens, the first vice president of MCSC. “After the golf scramble last year, [MCSC] gave the Richmond Hill High School theater program a grant so they can build a stage to perform on.”
The annual fundraiser brought in new players as well as returning players.
“The golf scramble last year was fun and had awesome prizes, so I came again this year to have a great time while playing a sport I like,” said Capt. Patrick Gleason, executive officer for 3rd Infantry Division Artillery.
This year, 34 teams participated and raised $6,000. Winners of the grants are scheduled to be determined in May.
