926th Engineering Brigade
BAGHDAD – The commander of the 412th Engineer Command from Vicksburg, Miss., visited with Soldiers of the 926th Engineer Brigade in Baghdad, July 23.
Maj. Gen. Paul Hamm visited to see how the Soldiers of the 926th Eng. Bde. had progressed in the short time they have been in Iraq.
The visit began with a briefing inside the office of Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Talley, commanding general, 926th Eng. Bde. Talley talked with Hamm about the Sadr City area and Task Force Gold.
Soon after the briefing, Hamm and Talley traveled to visit the Soldiers of Task Force Gold.
Talley said he has been very pleased with the progress made by Task Force Gold since their arrival, but despite all of the great success they've had he still expected even more from them in the near future. He also said he hopes it will act as a catalyst for the government of Iraq to do more for the citizens in the Sadr City area.
Hamm said he viewed the achievements by the 926th Eng. Bde. as having a lasting effect on Iraq and that the work in Sadr City is central to progress in Iraq and Baghdad in particular.
"I think it will contribute to that and I think that we will leave a legacy for the people that they'll be proud of and will relish the work that has been done," said Hamm.
Hamm visited with troops at Tharwa 1 and participated in a coin ceremony where the Soldiers were presented coins by Talley and Command Sgt. Maj. Guy Taylor, senior enlisted leader of the 412th Eng. Cmd.
"It was great for my soldiers to meet (Talley and Taylor) and see higher echelons of leadership taking an interest in their work," said Capt. Crystal Lauver, commander, 955th Engineer Company from Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
Following the ceremony, Talley guided Hamm on a tour of Sadr City to view street cleanup and electric substation and school repair projects.
