Camp Grayling, Mich.—Humvees and 5-ton trucks lined up alongside the road as Soldiers prepared for a 5 1/2-mile convoy. The crisp air and light rain did not discourage the motivated Soldiers from accomplishing their mission. They worked promptly to load the trucks with the equipment and supplies necessary to produce out in the field.
Soldiers of the 237th Personnel Services Battalion occupied Forward Operating Base Sustainer, June 10, at Camp Grayling, Mich., shortly after being led in a convoy by Lt. Col. Glenn Wirth, the battalion commander. This followed the previous day's successful quartering party to set up the battalion tactical operations center.
"The importance of this mission is to run our operations from the FOB and support the Ohio National Guard, particularly the Premobilization Training Assistance Element of the 16th Engineer Brigade," Wirth said. The PTAE trains deploying units on warrior tasks and skills needed during deployment.
The Soldiers' tasks during this annual training exercise are to gain knowledge and apply what they've learned.
"There's no difference from this convoy movement and what I've done in Kuwait, and various other locations around the world and in the United States," said Wirth, a Heath, Ohio, native.
Wirth said training is the time for Soldiers and leaders to make and correct mistakes.
"It's the time to learn something new every day," he said.
