FORWARD OPERATING BASE FALCON, Iraq – Multi-National Division – Baghdad leaders visited the residence of a prominent sheik to discuss social projects in the southwest area of the Rashid District in southern Baghdad, May 24.

Maj. Gen. Jeffery Hammond, the commanding general of MND-B and the 4th Infantry Division, visited the house of Sheik Ayad al-Jabouri to speak with local leaders about ongoing and future social projects between the coalition forces and the people of the Radwaniyah community.

"Today, we discussed the issues in our area, Radwaniyah, and we will work together with the coalition forces to solve any problems or concerns," said Jabouri, chairman of the Radwaniyah support council. "With our friends, the coalition forces, we can make progress for many essential services to the residents."

Hammond pledged to make a full commitment to all matters presented at the meeting.

"I will personally become engaged in the matters and do everything I can, plus more, to support the wonderful people of Radwaniyah," Hammond stated.

Radwaniyah consists mostly of farmland, and the people's needs differ from densely populated areas because they rely heavily on irrigation, fertilizer and agriculture.

"I am really looking forward to learning more about agriculture and water," said Col. Theodore Martin, commander of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Inf. Div. "It's important in Radwaniyah, and it is an area of personal interest to me."

After lunch, the key leaders of both parties, Iraqis and MND-B, separated themselves to further discuss a few final requests.

"All of your requests and recommendations are reasonable and will definitely have a great impact on this area," said Martin, a native of Jacksonville Fla.

After hearing requests for such topics as canal cleaning, detainee releases and jobs for the unemployed, Hammond and Martin both agreed the needs of the people were sensible and would produce long-lasting friendships and results.

"I promise to become one of your brothers, a regular visitor, and a member of your team as we work harder to bring about everlasting peace and prosperity," Hammond stated.
