CAMP VICTORY, Iraq – A memorial plaque dedication honoring Multi-National Division – Center's fallen heroes took place at the Honor Chapel deck May 26.
"The Army is good at very many things, but one of the best things the Army is really great at doing is remembering and honoring Soldiers who were killed in action or wounded in action," said Lt. Col. Harlon Triplett, division chaplain.
The plaque bears the names of all MND-C Soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving under the 3rd Infantry Division, and was placed on the wall inside Honor Chapel.
"The purpose of this plaque is so that we will never forget the dedication, sacrifice, courage, bravery and honor of the MND-C personnel who have given their lives in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom," Triplett said. "To not only bring freedom and democracy to the country of Iraq but to honor their commitment to our country and to keep it free and safe."
One of the main purposes of having memorial services in honor of our fallen comrades is to help their families and fellow Soldiers have closure.
"Closure is very, very important," Triplett said. "Families and our personnel will never forget these fallen Soldiers. They will always remember them and always love them for what they did and for their friendship, but this will help to bring some degree of closure to their friends and family,"
Honored guests and speakers at the service will include Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, MND-C commanding general; Command Sgt. Maj. Jesse Andrews, division command sergeant major; Triplett and Maj. Randy Edwards, deputy division chaplain.
