FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq – To better help Sons of Iraq in al Buaytha provide security for their community, Soldiers of 1st Platoon, Company D, 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, have been conducting on-the-job training at vehicle checkpoints with them.
The training, which usually lasts about 30 minutes, lets Soldiers view techniques the SoI learned during their initial training and offer them tips and refresher pointers.
Using an existing checkpoint along the road, the Soldiers have the SoI halt ongoing traffic, transforming the checkpoint into an active vehicle search point. SoI let vehicles through one at a time, conducting checks on the vehicles and personnel inside.
Notes are taken by the Soldiers, who give the trainees a quick after-action review before they return to their normal observation duties.
The training will help the SoI in their current role, as well as those selected for positions in the Arab Jabour police force.
