KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan national police and International Security Assistance Force Regional Command West forces recently discovered an weapons cache in Gulistan Valley, Farah province, containing 39 mortar bombs.

The cache was immediately handed over to ISAF Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams to clear and destroy the hazardous ammunitions.

Last January, ISAF EOD teams destroyed 64 bombs of the same type found recently. Together, more than 400 items of ordnance have already been disposed of in 2008.

Collection of illegal weapons from armed groups and individual persons is one way ISAF helps ensure security to assist in successful provincial development.

Local residents are continually encouraged to report illegally-kept weapons and explosives.
