    Herat FSB transfers leadership during ceremony

    KABUL, Afghanistan – Herat Forward Support Base officially transferred authority during a ceremony recently.

    Col. D. Jose Manuel García-Fontecha Álvarez assumed authority from Col. D. Jose Antonio Camiña Conesa during the ceremony presided by Brig. Gen. Fausto Macor, International Security Assistance Force's Regional Command West commander.

    After receiving the North Atlantic Treaty Organization flag from Macor, Alvarez, along with his predecessor and the general, thanked their Soldiers for their service in Afghanistan.

    Conesa was awarded with the Non Article 5 NATO Medal and the Italian Armed Forces Medal for his four months of service as commander of the FSB.

    Álvarez then swore his post as Spanish Contingent Commander, which concluded the ceremony.

    The event was attended by Herat a representatives of the Foreign Affairs Department and Provincial Government, the Herat University director, head of the Provincial Council, airport police chief and Guzara governor.
