FORT HOOD, Texas -- Fort Hood will plant a tree received from the National Sept. 11 Memorial & Museum at 9 a.m. Jan. 29 in Fort Hood’s Memorial Park here.
The seedling is from the 9/11 Memorial’s “Survivor Tree,” in New York City.
Fort Hood is receiving a small tree in honor of the victims and survivors of the shootings on Nov. 5, 2009, and April 2, 2014, and in acknowledgement of the continued sacrifice of the men and women who serve and their families.
Oso, Washington, was selected in memory of the 43 people killed in the March 22, 2014, mudslide in the small town, and in recognition of their resiliency. A seedling is also bound for Gulfport, Mississippi, to remember those who died in the region devastated by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.
Media wishing to attend the Fort Hood tree planting should register at http://www.forthoodpresscenter.com/go/survey/3439/22938/. On the day of the event, media should meet in the visitors’ center parking lot at 8:15 a.m.
