SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Hudson Valley author Jack Kelly will talk about the stories behind the leaders of the Continental Army during an appearance at the New York State Military Museum on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m.

The program based on Kelly's book "Band of Giants: The Amateur Soldiers Who Won America's Independence" is free.

Kelly, who lives near Rhinebeck, is also the author of "Gunpowder: Alchemy, Bombards, and Pyrotechnics: The History of the Explosive That Changed the World " as well as five novels. He contributes articles to American Heritage Magazine, is a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow, and has appeared on the History Channel.

Kelly's latest book discusses the fighters of the American army rather than the fight.

The Wall Street Journal praised his book as: "a lively narrative of the Revolutionary War . . . Kelly packs in a remarkable amount of information, thanks to his lean, readable prose and a smoothly integrated structure."

The Jan. 31 presentation is the latest in a series of free programs being hosted by the New York State Military Museum during January, February, March and April.
