MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River are sprawling with over 150,000 acres, 90 of which are available for outdoor recreation to keep patrons happy and healthy.

One opportunity afforded to them is access to the Gottschalk Marina and Courthouse Bay Marina located aboard Camp Lejeune and the air station.

The marinas provide patrons with boat slip rentals and, for those who don’t own one, watercraft for rent. In addition to boat rentals, they rent out paddle boards and kayaks, as well as the gear necessary for an outing on the water.

“Marines have been on a high training tempo for the past decade,” said Brent Williams, marinas general manager. “They need an outlet to get away from the daily ins and outs and enjoy themselves. Not only do they have to train on the water, but they can have fun on the water.”

The marina not only rents out boats, but gives basic sailing classes.
For units looking for a fun alternative physical training session, the marinas also have several different options.

“We offer group physical training,” said Sammy Landrum, assistant marinas manager and Jacksonville, North Carolina, native. “We can support as many as 85 people and have activities such as water soccer and paddle board relays.”

The marinas not only offer water activities, but also outdoor recreation areas to include gazebos and picnic areas. The New River marina even has a playground and softball field.

“There is a lot of opportunity at the marinas,” said Williams, a Swansboro, North Carolina, native. “We can get you on the water, train you to sail boats, and we have all the gear you need.”
