NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. – The Sunrise Vista Golf Course recently completed a five-day program management review to assess current operations and determine the most appropriate plan for continuing golf opportunities for the Nellis AFB community.

Air Force Services Activity and functional experts determined that Sunrise Vista has underperformed financially for several years and is need of a financial boost to ensure the golf course remains available for all Department of Defense ID cardholders.

The team reviewed all aspects of the golf course, to include analyzing community needs, validating fees and charges and assessing customer-focused programs to determine the sustainability of the golf course at Nellis AFB.

“The biggest change is the revision of the golf fee structure that reintroduced annual rates in addition to daily rates and punch cards,” said William Lane, 99th Force Support Squadron deputy director. “A major feature of the new rates is that dependents of active duty annual members can golf for no additional charge. Customers will also see an ongoing variety of special discounts throughout the year to include periodic discounts on daily rates, snack bar and others specials.”

The review recommendations on fee structure and programming are the primary focus area to increase revenue and improve profitability. The golf course is also implementing various cost saving initiatives to reduce overall operating expenses for the course.

"The team provided us with an excellent road map that should help us make necessary financial performance improvements,” said Lt. Col. Tammy Johnson, 99th FSS commander.

Sunrise Vista is also open to units who would like to hold events and fundraisers. Sunrise Vista provides a golf pro shop for all golfing needs as well as a breakfast and lunch food service.

“Sunrise Vista is great,” said Ed Joyce, a Sunrise Vista patron. I come here three times a week to golf. It has great management as well as great food.”

Look for a renewed marketing and promotional campaign that will highlight a host of other program initiatives aimed at increasing participation at the course throughout the year.

“We continue to emphasize that the course is a great venue for units to hold customized events. These include standard tournament formats, par-3 course events, driving range competitions and others,” said Lane, “We encourage units to call the golf course manager to explore the wide range of options available.”
