JOINT BASE MYER-HENDERSON HALL, Va. - Kelly Layne has a lot to say when you ask her what her job title is.

Layne began work Dec. 3 on the Henderson Hall portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall as the Family Readiness Program trainer/volunteer opportunities program manager for Marine Corps Community Service.

“I do training for Marine Corps Family Team Building on the unit and personal family readiness program that every command must implement,” she said.

Layne explained the mission of MCFTB at Henderson Hall is to provide programs and services to encourage personal growth and strengthen the family for continual readiness. The unit and personal family readiness program provides official command information, referral resources, readiness and deployment support to Henderson Hall Marines and their families.

“I get to work with some amazing people. I get to serve the Marine Corps, which I think is amazing,” she said. “It’s a great opportunity to give back to the Marine Corps.”

Layne added that volunteer opportunities for Henderson Hall Marines are available throughout the National Capital Region.

“We do have a large reach,” she said. “Marines are very interested in volunteering. Volunteering makes you feel good.”

The wife of a Marine who retired Dec. 31, Layne relocated to JBM-HH from Barstow, California.

“I have worked for MCCS for about five years now in three different locations,” she said.

Layne began working for MCCS while her husband was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in North Carolina, where she was hired as a family readiness program trainer. She then accepted a position at Cherry Point as a family care behavioral specialist. She continued her career as an Exceptional Family Member Program case worker when she relocated to Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow.

“I just like to bounce around MCCS a little bit,” she said with a laugh.

Layne is looking for volunteers to help out with two events, both on Jan. 24. Wreaths Across America is looking for volunteers to remove wreaths from grave markers at Arlington National Cemetery. Volunteers are also needed to assist with the Winterhaven homeless veterans stand down. If you would like to volunteer for either event, contact her at 703-693-1253 or via email at laynekd@usmc-mccs.org.
