JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD, Wash. -- Soldiers and family members gathered at The Warrior Zone on Lewis North, Jan. 10, to watch as two National Football League teams battled for the win, fans chanted and cheered for their teams on who would win the game.

The Warrior Zone hosts all the NFL games live on their big screen TVs, over 150 people showed up to watch the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers. The two teams have been playing very close games for the past few years but with the Seahawks having not lost to the Panthers since 2007 had the Panther fans on edge.

“If the Panthers are going to win this game they need to go into this game and dominate on both sides of the ball,” said Staff Sgt. Marcus Thomas, a Soldier from the 17th Field Artillery Brigade, 7th Infantry Division. “If we can’t stop their run and pass game, we won’t stand a chance. I’ve been a Panthers fan forever; I just want to see them beat the Seahawks so we can go to the Superbowl.”

While other fans had different thoughts on the game, everyone was surprised by some of the big plays.

“I can’t believe that Kam Chancellor jumped over the Panthers line to try and block the field goal, it was crazy, but he didn’t just do it once he did it twice,” said Spc. Rick Morris, an aviation crew chief from the 16th Combat Aviation Brigade. “I knew the Seahawks would do great in this game just like they did last year in the Playoffs.”

At half time, fans talked about how close the game was as the Seahawks led the Panthers 14 to 10.

“The “Hawks” need to step up their defense, they are doing great but this game is too close and they need to step up their game,” added Morris. “The Panthers are getting the ball way to much, but they are unable to get in the end zone when they really need to.”

As the game came to an end, the Seahawks pulled ahead to a 31 to 17 scoring two touchdowns and a field goal in the 4th quarter to solidify the win.

“Well the Panthers had a good season,” said Thomas. “Hopefully we can keep it up for next season and go back to the playoffs, and come out with a win for the 2015 season.”

While some people came to The Warrior Zone to relax and play pool and video games their attention shifted to the game.

“I think The Warrior Zone is a great place to come and relax and help get me out of the barracks, plus almost everything to do here is free,” said Morris. “You can come and have fun with all of the things they have to do here, there is something for everyone.”

The Warrior Zone will host a Super Bowl party and the remaining playoff games next weekend.
