BOISE AIR TERMINAL AIR GUARD STATION, Idaho - More than 1,000 Airmen from the 124th Fighter Wing participated in the first Preventive Health Assessment Festival in Building 1500 here, Dec. 6-7.

The 124th Medical Group implemented the festival to allow Airmen to get their medical requirements taken care of in one centralized location, saving time during their drill.

“One of my concerns is how many things detract from our Airmen’s time, especially during drill weekends,” said Col. Sherrie McCandless, commander of the 124th Fighter Wing. “I think this is a fantastic opportunity for us to knock out all of the requirements that may detract from our training the rest of the year and get to spend time focused on our AFSC.”

Airmen have saved time because of the festival.

“It’s gone really smooth and people are happy with the results,” said Master Sgt. Kari Harp, a health technician from the 124th Medical Group. “They aren’t waiting very long, whereas before they would wait for probably three or four hours for a comprehensive physical and now it’s as fast as 20 minutes.”

The festival consisted of two different processing lines, referred to as tracks. The exam track was for those who needed a comprehensive PHA and the fast track was for everyone else.

Airmen noticed the improved process and bigger location.

“It’s a way more comfortable atmosphere,” said Senior Airman Lonnie Kemp. “Everybody seems to be in a good mood and it’s a bigger building so you don’t feel like you’re going in circles or shoved off in offices like sardines.”

Kemp was scheduled for the exam track and completed it a little more than an hour.

This time savings allows Airmen to focus more on their AFSC training.

“The rest of the Air National Guard is very focused on getting people into their AFSC training as much as possible,” said McCandless.

This seems to be a great program and it is off to a great start, McCandless said.
