Med group makes Individual Medical Readiness a breeze

    124th Fighter Wing

Months of planning and organization by the 124th Medical Group professionals resulted in a one-stop shop Idaho Air National Guardsmen to accomplish their annual preventative health assessments, a critical component of individual medical readiness, at the PHA Festival, during the December UTA weekend, at Gowen Field.

“The PHA Festival will serve as a single event to complete all annual medical requirements for over 90% of the IDANG,” said Chief Master Sgt. Jarod Taylor, 124th Medical Group superintendent. “This will allow members to spend more time in their assigned duty sections training for the mission and also allow 124MDG personnel more time focusing on our required medical training.”

The PHA festival operated much like the all too familiar PDF (Personnel Deployment Function) line. In order to accommodate the 1,200 individuals that attended the festival, 124th MDG is brought in nearly 20 outside medical, dental, and aural professionals. This ensured timely service, speedy yet thorough patient interactions, and minimal wait times for guardsmen process through the line.

“One of my concerns is how many events detract from our airmen’s time during drill weekends,” said Col. Sherrie McCandless, commander of the 124th Fighter Wing. “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to knock out all of those requirements that may detract from our training during the rest of the year.”

At least six other wings have held mass PHA events similar to this. The Air Force has embraced the PHA to ensure individual medical readiness and more wings are adopting this mass-processing approach for its efficiency. Our 124th MDG was able to benchmark the other wings that have done this before, they have adjusted it for our needs, and they plan to hold the festival annually.

“This is a great program—off to a great start,” McCandless said.
