    4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade

FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. – Fort Bragg, North Carolina hosted the 2014 All-Armed Forces Combatives Invitational where the team from Fort Leonard Wood, comprised mostly of 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade Soldiers, not only answered the invitation to compete but brought home the second place trophy, Dec. 10-13, 2014.

The tournament extended competition invitations to all military branches and a final 14 bouts on Dec. 13, decided the teams who won 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

The Fort Leonard Wood team has fighters, coaches and those who are both. Staff Sgt. Harold D. Parham III, network operations noncommissioned officer, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th MEB, 1st Infantry Division, who competes as a welterweight, fits that bill.

“We all put in some hard work,” Parham said. “You can tell the effort put into training by how well the team did in the tournament.

When Parham wasn’t focusing on his own fights, he was coaching his teammates.

“All I did was give the guys some tools but when it was their turn in the ring they put them to use,” Parham said.

The 4th MEB has many wins under their belt and head coach Sgt. Brandon Bunner, Fort Leonard Wood combatives school lead instructor, 5th Engineer Battalion, 4th MEB, 1st Inf. Div., has been an integral part since the post program’s inception in December 2012.

“I feel really good about winning this trophy,” Bunner said. “Most of our team had less than a week to prepare due to their unit obligations while other teams that competed had the luxury of dedicating two months to training for this invitational. This did affect our guys during competition but in the end they maintained the Army standard of being prepared anytime, anywhere, and for anything.”
