DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. - The 709th Airlift Squadron is preparing to deliver almost 125,000 pounds of food and educational supplies aboard a C-5M Super Galaxy to Nicaragua this weekend, just in time for the holiday season.

The humanitarian support provided by the 709th AS is part of the Denton Program, which is a Department of Defense humanitarian assistance transportation program that utilizes space available military air, surface and sea-lift assets.

Transportation services offered through the Denton Program are free of charge for applicants requesting humanitarian support.

This particular mission supports the Misiones de Alcance Mundial, or World Missions Outreach. WMO is an international nonprofit organization based in Nicaragua that provides food, education, medical and ministry services to the country's citizens.

The food and supplies, being transported by the 709th AS to the WMO compound, will be delivered through various feeding programs and offered to those in need through the organization's warehouse.

"This humanitarian mission provides us with an opportunity to get our flight training accomplished while having an enormous impact on the people of Nicaragua," said Lt. Col. Michael DeSantis, 512th Operations Group deputy commander. "The Denton Program provides a wonderful bridge between our airlift capabilities and the supplies that need to be delivered all over the world."

The 709th AS is part of the Air Force Reserve's 512th Airlift Wing at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware.
