    SANDSTON, VA, UNITED STATES

    Story by Capt. Andrew Czaplicki

    Virginia National Guard Public Affairs

SANDSTON, Va. – The Virginia National Guard launched its official LinkedIn company page Dec. 17, 2014, as part of ongoing efforts to bring quality content and information to all members of the Virginia National Guard community.

The page, which can be found at www.linkedin.com/company/virginia-national-guard, will be used to reach Soldiers, Airmen, members of the Virginia Defense Force, civilian employees and their families where they already spend much of their online time and to help stay in touch with the needs of the Virginia Guard community.

In conjunction with the Virginia National Guard’s other social media services, like Facebook and Twitter, LinkedIn provides another online platform to publish media and news content to over 332 million global professionals.

Initially, users can expect to find links to news articles, photo sets and relevant information affecting the Virginia National Guard.

Future posts and dialogue will reflect the professional interests and needs of the audience, taking cues from members’ comments and the command philosophy of Brig. Gen. Timothy P. Williams, the adjutant general of Virginia, to actively seek “opportunities to let others know what we can do and how well we are doing it.”

LinkedIn is the largest business-oriented social networking service on the Internet. Founded in December 2002 and launched May 5, 2003, LinkedIn is primarily utilized for professional networking, but Dan Roth, executive director of LinkedIn, announced its new content strategy that allows “all members” to create and publish long-form content Feb. 20, 2014. This development allows the Virginia National Guard to publish digital media and public information on a regular basis.

According to the LinkedIn website, basic functions allow users to create profiles and connect with each other in an online social forum, which may represent real-world professional relationships or can be used to obtain introductions to other users, post photos, follow different companies in a related field, research employment opportunities and endorse each other’s professional skills or experience.

Virginia Guard personnel and their friends and families are encouraged to “Follow’ the Virginia National Guard and actively participate by posting comments and liking content. Persons that already have a LinkedIn account may link their current profiles to the Virginia National Guard company page, by following these instructions: https://help.linkedin.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3077/kw/update+company+name.
