    310th Expeditionary Sustainment Command

FORT HOOD, Texas – Friends and family gathered at the Kieschnick Gym here on Fort Hood to bid farewell to Soldiers from the 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) as they travel to Kuwait for a nine-month deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The ceremony began with an invocation from the chaplain, followed by "The Star-Spangled Banner." Lt. Gen. Sean MacFarland, commanding general, III Corps and Fort Hood, came to see them off and spoke at the ceremony, as well.

While deployed, the 13th SC(E) will serve as the forward deployed headquarters for the 1st Sustainment Command (Theater), which is responsible for all logistical support in the Central Command’s area of operations.

Brig. Gen. Rodney Fogg, 13th SC(E) commander, said the unit’s task is to provide command, control, administration and logistics support to an area that includes 20 countries in the Middle East and covers an area of about 4.6 million square miles. The 13th SC(E) will support ongoing operations, support the reset of Army equipment, synchronize terrain and real estate management and maintain necessary contract support.

“Like any Army deployment, we’ve been planning and training for months,” said Fogg, who also gives credit to the support from those who will remain here to support the Soldiers from afar. “We’re ready. We’ve been supported completely by the community. This community is just outstanding. I’ve been in the Army for 27 years, and I can truly say this is the best community I’ve ever been in.”

This is the second deployment for the unit in three years. Most recently, the 13th SC(E) spent 12 months in Afghanistan serving with NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan. The Soldiers then integrated into the Deputy Command of Support Operations and served both in the headquarters of the directorate at Camp Eggers, Kabul, as well as in all five regional support commands across Afghanistan conducting logistics training and mentoring of Afghan partners.

While that mission and the unit’s current mission are similar, the unit will face new and unique challenges that this well-trained staff is ready to engage.
