TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif.- Interesting fact: In his spare time, Crow enjoys doing volunteer work. He coaches kids soccer and hopes to coach kids basketball in the near future.
In high school, I played volleyball, basketball and soccer. I love sports. I chose them because I had a passion for them and I knew I was going to be good at them. I also did Junior Reserves Officers Training Corps throughout high school.
I joined the Marine Corps in a spur of the moment because I could’ve had a college billet in an ROTC but things didn’t work out the way I planned, my senior year. I wanted to prove the people who said I couldn’t do it wrong. The military isn’t hard for me; I do what I need to do and try to get it done the best I can.
I would like to make a career out of it, but I don’t know what the next four years has in store for me.
I enjoy working out in my spare time. I need something that distracts me from everything, takes my mind away from what’s going on. It always challenges me to go heavier in weight and become stronger. My favorite part about working out is the pump you get from lifting.
I’m with the Special Reaction Team for the Provost Marshal’s Office. We train as much as possible; our training consists of house clearing, tactics with weapons, shooting, hostage situations and barricaded suspects.
I wanted to go SRT because I knew someone who did it before me and I had a lot of respect for him and admired him, so I followed in his footsteps. I knew I was going to be good at it. I can do anything I set my mind to.
I try to get as much college done as I can. I’ve been going to school for a year and a half. I want to get a bachelor’s degree in Business Management because I feel like it can help me build my future and I can apply it anywhere I go in life.
I do a lot of volunteer service. I coach kid’s soccer and, hopefully, I get the chance to coach a kid’s basketball team. I also help the local boy scouts and the Twentynine Palms swim team. In the near future, I want to help out with the local Young Marines Program out in town and the local high school’s Junior Reserves Officers Training Corps.
I chose to coach these sports because I played them in high school and I knew I was going to be a good coach for the teams. I feel like sports make a big impact on kids’ lives and it also keeps them out of trouble and from doing the wrong thing.
The reason I volunteer is because I feel like I need to give back. Being a Marine is a huge honor but in a non-deployable status, why can’t we help out in the community and give back to them? If you’re not busy, why not donate your time to make a difference in someone else’s life?
I really enjoy coaching kids because even though they’re younger, I get to influence them and be the one they look up to. When they’re older, I want them to look back and [me] be the one who stands out in their mind. I want them to be like, “Oh, I wonder what Coach Ramsey is doing? I want to be like him when I grow up.” I want to inspire people.
