GALVESTON, Texas – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded the option to the Port Arthur Canal and Junction maintenance dredging contract in the amount of $508,200 to Manson Construction Co., for dredging of the docks at the Port of Port Arthur.
The contractor is required to remove approximately 80,000 cubic yards of material from the channel with material being placed in Placement Area 8 (located across the channel from the port facilities).
“This work is a contract option to our federal contract and paid for by the Port of Port Arthur and allows them to address critical shoal areas within the port facility,” said Paula Rankin Wise, an operations manager with the USACE Galveston District’s Navigation Branch.”
According to Wise, work will begin around Nov. 22 and take approximately 22 days for completion.
The USACE Galveston District was established in 1880 as the first engineer district in Texas to oversee river and harbor improvements. The district is directly responsible for maintaining more than 1,000 miles of channel, including 250 miles of deep draft and 750 miles of shallow draft as well as the Colorado River Locks and Brazos River Floodgates.
