Fort Hood to host Retiree Appreciation Weekend

FORT HOOD, Texas - Fort Hood will host its 40th Annual Retiree Appreciation Weekend Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 here. The two-day event is to celebrate service members of all branches of military service.

The events begin with a retiree golf tournament Oct. 31 at the Courses at Clear Creek. Also flu shots will be available from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on the first floor of the Copeland Center.

Legal assistance will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Building 13, located on 52nd Street and 761st Tank Battalion Avenue.

At 4:30 p.m., III Corps will host the monthly retirement celebration at the flag pole of the III Corps Headquarters. This month, Master Sgt. Michael Rhoden will be honored along with more than 27 retiring service members.

Fort Hood's commissary will sponsor a dinner Friday night at the Phantom Warrior Center, RSVP by calling [phone].

On Nov. 1, the main event kicks off at 8 a.m. with a no-cost breakfast at Club Hood. Lt. Col. Thomas McKenna, director of retired and annuitant pay, Defense Finance and Accounting Services, Cleveland, will be the guest speaker.

Retirees may visit all the supporting agencies for free services, such as identification cards, Phantom Express, vehicle registration and legal services.

A health fair is offered by the Thomas Moore Clinic providing immunizations, blood pressure checks and other routine health screenings.

The Department of Veterans Affairs Mobile Veteran Center will be set up in the parking lot of the Copeland Center to assist veterans with any issues or questions regarding benefits and entitlements.

The 1st Cavalry Division Horse Detachment will conduct a demonstration at the stables behind the visitor’s center beginning at 2 p.m.

The event wraps up on Saturday night with the Retiree Round-Up Dinner at Club Hood sponsored by the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce, Military Affairs Committee, RSVP by calling [phone].
