BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security Forces conducted a humanitarian-assistance operation Dec. 6 in the remote village of Marghunday, Oruzgan Province.
This is the first time in months the ANSF pushed this far north in Oruzgan. The ANSF commander conducted a Shura with 80 villagers to assess the priority of needs for the population. The commander expressed to the elders the significance of supporting the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the fact that people must unite with one another to thwart the insurgents and combat intimidation.
While in the village, the ANSF also inspected a hospital identifying several portions needing improvements. Following the assessments, the ANSF handed out humanitarian-aid supplies in the name of the IRoA. One of Pres. Hamid Karzai's major initiatives is to ensure that remote villagers are afforded the resources necessary to help them combat the harsh weather throughout the winter.
"ANSF and IRoA are extending their influence throughout southern Afghanistan," said Army Maj. Chris Belcher, a Coalition forces spokesman. "They truly care about the people. In a matter of moments, this fact is easily recognized in the faces of those receiving assistance."
