BAUMHOLDER, Germany – Soldiers from the 16th Sustainment Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command trained Lithuanian and Latvian Soldiers on the use of U.S. Army night vision devices furthering U.S.–Baltic troop interoperability.
“This is an opportunity to work with our Baltic State allies and further strengthen the partnerships we have built with them," said Chief Warrant Officer Carlos Heron, an electronic systems maintenance technician with the 317th Support Maintenance Company, 18th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion. “The training they receive here will help them improve their procedures and expand their operational capabilities in a variety of missions.”
In addition to learning about the NVD repair systems and standard operating procedures, Baltic logisticians also learned about NVD maintenance facilities’ supply and operations. The Soldiers focused on supply documentation flow, parts and facility organization.
“The value of partnership training is important in helping us build stronger relationships with our allies," said Master Sgt. Aidanas Sudentas, a material manager for the Lithuanian Army’s Material Resources Department. “From the information we have received, we will take what we have learned here and improve our procedures.”
In 1998, the U.S. signed a "Charter of Partnership" with Lithuania, Latvia and other Baltic countries creating working groups dedicated to reinforcing our commitment to the security of our allies in the region.
U.S. and Baltic forces have since trained in large-scale multi-national exercises and with localized small-scale training teams. The training is designed to strengthen partnerships, foster trust and promote regional stability and security.
“I will take all the information I have received to help me to become more efficient at my job,” said Pfc. Julius Savickas from the Lithuanian Army’s Material Resources Department. “This type of training will only help us improve our procedures.”
The British soldiers expressed their appreciation for being able to attend the class and hoped their experience would benefit there units.
“The success of this type of training will hopefully lead to more training in others areas with our Baltic State allies," said Heron.
