MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. - "We’re one of the best load crews here at Minot," said Staff Sgt. Kelvin McCrea, 5th Aircraft Maintenance load crew team chief. "So they brought us all together to bring home the trophy."
Weapon load crews from around Air Force Global Strike Command are competing for the title "Best of the Best."
"Right now we’re just getting familiar with each individual task," McCrea said. "Make sure we don’t miss anything and just making sure we have it all down."
The load crew is evaluated on how quickly they load munitions on a B-52H Stratofortress and how many discrepancies are found.
"For the competition we’ll be loading 16 GBU-38 externally, right and left wing, and we’ll be loading 8 cruise missiles internally," McCrea said.
Although there are no GSC veterans on the team, McCrea is still confident in his team’s ability to take home the win.
"This will be all of our first time participating and we’re looking forward to it," McCrea said. "I’m pretty confident we’ll do well. We have the best people for the job and we should bring home the trophy."
The purpose of the challenge is to recognize outstanding Air Force Global Strike Command personnel and teams, and improve combat capabilities through competition and community crosstalk.
