SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. – U.S. Army Central’s Family Readiness Group collected approximately 950 pounds of candy from each staff directorate for more than two weeks, to support the “Boo Bash Trunk or Treat” event at the Community Center, scheduled 4-7 p.m., Oct. 25. Last year, there were an estimated 3,000 kids in attendance.

"We were able to collect a bunch of candy with the help of the staff directorates, namely the G3, Training and Exercises Directorate. They were very competitive and donated the majority of the candy, approximating 181 pounds of the 950 pounds of donated treats,” said Elisabeth Cortese, USARCENT family readiness support assistant. “The Family Readiness group thanks all the directorates for their participation."

Beginning early October, USARCENT teamed up with different staff directorates to collect candy for a contest. The directorate who would collect the most candy wins a potluck luncheon made by the FRG team. The estimation to determine the winner was ounces per Soldier, per directorate.

This year, the Safety Directorate won the candy contest with only four personnel in their directorate; they pulled in 141 ounces per person with a total of 424.45 ounces equivalent to 26.53 pounds of donated candy.

“"We stand behind every kid and kid at heart that has a missing sweet tooth,” said Lt. Col. Nathaniel Sims, USARCENT deputy director of safety. “Thanks to the efforts of just four safety personnel we contributed a ton of candy to boost the 'Boo Bash Trunk or Treat' event.”
