    Change of Command
By Sgt. 1st Class Mark Bell

EDINBURGH, Ind. -- As Camp Atterbury got hit with the first snowstorm of the year, Capt. Bryan J. Stoddard, a 2000 Arsenal Technical High School graduate, accepted the Headquarters and Headquarters Company command from Capt. Steve Kim during a change-of-command ceremony held here Dec. 5.

Stoddard accepted the guidon from Col. Christopher Holden, 205th Infantry Brigade commander, First Army, and the responsibility of leading Operation Warrior Trainers returning from combat zones in Iraq and Afghanistan. Stoddard's company currently trains Soldiers mobilizing from Camp Atterbury and deploying to those same locations.

Holden thanked the families of Stoddard and Kim for their support to their husbands.

"Both of you give legiticimy for being here," Holden said to the families. "We are family here, and everything we touch turns to excellence."

Holden said he enjoyed working with Kim and Stoddard and looks forward to the future of HHC with Stoddard at the helm.

"Our secret to success is being surrounded by success," he said. "Captain Stoddard will carry on the success and blended balance from Captain Kim. We are a home team."

Stoddard enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1999 and completed basic training at Fort Knox, Ky., before earning a four-year Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship to Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

"I want to apologize ahead of time for the late nights, weekends and numerous [temporary duty assignments]," Stoddard told his wife. "You have always supported my military career, and I thank you."

Stoddard received his commission on May 14, 2004 and reported to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for Field Artillery Officer Basic Course.

He served as platoon leader, battalion maintenance officer, and intelligence officer with 5th Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Corps Artillery while deployed to Iraq in 2005.

Stoddard's last assignment was with 2nd Battalion, 338th Combat Service and Combat Service and Support Battalion here, where he served as a team officer-in-charge and assistant operations officer.

Stoddard currently lives in Greenwood with his wife Brandy and his sons Bryan II and Jason.
